St. Nicholas Cathedral is the main cathedral of the Orthodox Church in America, the Department of His Beatitude Tikhon, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of America and Canada.

The first parish church was built at the expense of emigrants from Russia in 1930.

The lower part of the temple was completed in 1954 and was used for church services while the upper one was being built. The construction of the cathedral was completed at the end of 1962. The bell tower in honor of the millennium of the baptism of Russia, was consecrated in 1988.

With the help of the Russian Orthodox Church, the church was finished. Since 1991, icon painters from Moscow, led by Alexander Maskalonov, painted the entire nave in a traditional style. This work was completed in 1994.
